Will A Quiet Place: Day One Kill it at the Box Office?

Updated: Sep 25

With the upcoming release of A Quiet Place: Day One I decided to take a look at the box office standings for horror movies. It's been rather quiet since Five Nights at Freddy's eclipsed 12th highest grossing worldwide. The upcoming film with the most potential to follow in suit is this one. In fact, both A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place: Part 2 are top fifteen all time in the genre. Although the sequel sits lower on the charts than the original, it was well received critically. This is an indicator that the series has some juice left in it and could make another splash.

Horror movies box office

In A Quiet Place: Part 2 we saw glimpses of day one of the apocalypse, which were very intense, and action packed. Those were some of the best moments of the film and it's an indicator this third installment could perform well. In the sequel we continue the story following our protagonists who are dealing with the loss of their father, Lee (John Krasinski), and are on the move for a new safe haven. Unintentionally, the group finds a way to battle the monsters through use of high frequency audio feedback. After a skirmish with one of the creatures, they meet a stranger, Emmet (Cillian Murphy), who takes them in. The new group hears of an island off the coast that had been a place of refuge since the start of the apocalypse. They make their way there and find it to be safe. The island is a version of what life used to be, and the way the characters deal with this jarring change is very gripping. Sadly, the community is discovered by the creatures and our characters must again fight to survive.

The third installment will center around a woman named Sam (Lupita Nyong'o) who tries to survive in New York City as bloodthirsty alien creature's attack. The film is directed by Michael Sarnoski who gave us the film Pig. Other notable cast members include Alex Wolff (Hereditary, Pig, My Friend Dahmer) and Joseph Quinn (Overlord). Since this is a spin off sequel there is not expected to be any direct ties to the first two installments.

A Quiet Place: Day One 2024 horror movie

As mentioned earlier this release has great potential to hit top fifteen at the box office. The trailer is very good, the cast is promising, and the timing is just right during peak season for blockbusters. If it happens, all three installments would be top fifteen for the horror genre. An incredible feat! A Quiet Place: Day One also has a definite shot at being one of the best in the genre for 2024. We've seen some notable films so far with Immaculate, The First Omen, and Late Night with the Devil, so the competition is tight right now. This installment should have the capability to stand out, and the PG-13 rating will allow a wider audience to flood the theaters. A Quiet Place: Day One releases in theaters June 28th.
